Worcester Blackstone Visitor Center
The Worcester Blackstone Visitor Center will serve as a gateway to the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor and to the City of Worcester. The Visitor Center will provide a connecting point to recreational, historical, cultural and geographic attractions in the Blackstone River Valley and Central Massachusetts.
More than a park, this will be an Interpretive and Cultural Center for the Region.
The John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor was designated by an act of the US Congress in 1986 to preserve and interpret for present generations the nationally significant historic, cultural and natural resources of the Blackstone River Valley.
It consists of 24 cities and towns in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, Inc. (Blackstone Heritage Corridor) is a non-profit organization charged with promoting that mission, and focuses on coordinating people, organizations and agendas to preserve and promote the heritage landscape of the Blackstone River Valley.
Construction of the Worcester Blackstone Visitor Center is being funded through a Federal highway department appropriation and is being constructed by Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). Once complete, it will serve as a visitor center and provide space for the regional offices of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (MA DCR), who will also be the owners and caretakers of the property.
The Blackstone Heritage Corridor is pleased to be part of the collaboration and design process for this project.
