Boundary Study

In response to the inquires of several communities, and local organizations, the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission is launching a Boundary Study to determine if the current boundaries of the Heritage Corridor should be expanded.

The original Heritage Corridor, as established by Congress in 1986, consisted of twenty communities. That boundary was expanded to its current size of twenty-four communities in 1996. Now, over a decade later, the Commission is undertaking this study to determine if new communities need to be added to Heritage Corridor, in order to protect the critical resources that are integral to the national significance of this region.

To this end, the Corridor Commission is inviting communities within the Blackstone River watershed that are not within the Heritage Corridor to submit a proposal demonstrating their qualifications for admission.

Community leaders who are interested in joining this process are invited to download a copy of the Boundary Study Application Package below, as well as the links to other supporting materials which could help in the preparation of the application.
